Tide Light Rail Project Presents Opportunity for DBEs
The Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program is an equal opportunity program authorized by the United States Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration. The DBE program is designed to ensure that small businesses owned by minorities, women and other disadvantaged individuals have a fair opportunity to compete for federal dollars spent on public transportation projects, like The Tide light rail
project.
If you are interested in becoming a certified DBE, here are some things you need to know:
What constitutes a DBE firm?
A DBE firm would consist of a small business which
is majority owned by:
• African Americans
• Hispanic Americans
• Native Americans
• Asian-Pacific Americans
• Subcontinent Asian-Pacific Americans
• Other minorities found to be disadvantaged by the Small Business Administration (SBA)
• Women
• Those with disabilities (case by case basis)
• Persons who are not members of one of the above groups and own and control their business may also be eligible if they establish their “social” and “economic” disadvantage
