State of the City Address
Norfolk’s Mayor Paul D. Fraim will present the 2008 State of the City address today -- Friday, February 1, 2008. The event will be held at Norfolk Waterside Marriott, 235 E. Main Street at noon. This year’s theme is “A City in Motion” and highlights the construction of The Tide and new developments within the downtown corridor.
Mayor Fraim is expected to review the accomplishments and challenges of 2007, and describe the future for the City of Norfolk. In last year’s address, Mr. Fraim said, “The advent of light rail is now all but certain, so we want to encourage more mixed use and transit oriented development such as Harbor Heights, Wachovia Center and the Kotarides apartment development…” Today, we are pleased to report that light rail is indeed a reality with a signed Full Funding Grant Agreement and construction well underway.
This year’s event is sponsored by Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, Towne Bank, Fresh Farm, Norfolk Southern, and LTD Management Company. Registration begins at 11:00 am; luncheon and program are from noon to 1:30 pm.
