Art-in-Transit
Mass transit systems around the world use the power of art to transform functional spaces into places that enrich the everyday lives of transit customers and the community. Light rail stations are an excellent venue for exhibiting artwork. The Tide will install artwork throughout the system to make light rail stations more attractive, to provide enjoyment for its customers and to contribute to the historic and cultural richness of the Norfolk area.
Community participation will be an essential part of the planning and development of The Tide art projects. The Art-In-Transit program will invite local artists to collaborate with residents to generate ideas for art projects and ensure that they reflect the unique character of the surrounding communities.
